Weekend Rant or The One Where I Sound a Bit Crazy...

Before I get into all the ranting and raving I just want to say that I had a great time and just like my birthday rant I plan on writing a happier entry at a later date... but let's face it the negatives are probably a way more interesting read. I'm going to write part of this in a bulleted list, I'm not sure it will all make sense to everyone, but hey let's see how this goes...
  • Inviting spouses to the rehearsal dinner is the right thing to do... not letting them sit next to their spouse is not the right thing to do... what was the point of me going??
  • Going along with that not letting me say a word to my husband at the ceremony is just not cool either.
  • Putting the two year old flower girl in a spaghetti strap dress is not right, why people insist on putting flower girls in general in spaghetti strap dresses just doesn't look right, thick straps are the way to go... let little girls look like little girls.
  • Sitting a date of someone in the bridal party in a sea of people she doesn't know also makes her feel unwelcome... quit telling me the bride loves me and wants me to feel included when she sits me with a bunch of people I don't know
  • Putting group dance songs on the do not play list is dumb... people ENJOY dancing to this music... weddings are the time to do it... you come off as looking dumb.
  • "Team Awesome" is just stupid at this point... grow up you losers
  • Proposing to your girlfriend two days before a wedding is not thoughtful, especially when you're the best man... wait 3 days...
Okay... here's where I'm going to transition into another full on rant that I've been feeling for quite awhile now. It kind of goes along with the last point above. Sometimes I wish I had enough gusto to tell these things to their face... under the right situation I really would but that situation just hasn't presented itself.

Chad has a friend, P, he was the best man at our wedding and also was the best man at the wedding this past weekend. P really messed up being the best man for Chad... he didn't plan the bachelor party (another groomsman ended up doing it) and he obviously gave .5 seconds thought to this speech and as bride and groom it was highly disappointing. Chad really ended up giving him the benefit of the doubt for our wedding claiming this was P's first wedding so he didn't really understand what he needed to do.

Flash forward to this wedding Chad thought this time around P should know what he's doing, understand planning the bachelor party is important and giving a good toast is important too. Well, P totally f-ed it up. Like completely... worse than he did with our wedding... and a lot of that has to do with his girlfriend, K.

P has not been a very good friend since he starting dating K. For instance, as you might recall Chad had brain surgery earlier this year. P didn't even call or text to see how he was doing. This is after I practically begged him to come to visit Chad in the hospital. If the roles were reversed and his friend had brain surgery and I knew Chad hadn't checked in you best be believing I would be on Chad to like white on rice to call and get an update. That's K's job, she is to blame too.

K just comes off as really fake... I don't like her and I have never really liked her. And I've heard recently that she's been talking sh!t behind our backs...that's not cool and neither are you.

But back to P... he failed at planning the bachelor party for this wedding, Chad ended up doing most of the planning... he also failed at giving a good toast at the reception, however I will say it was slightly better than the one he gave at our wedding. Those are the big things, however there are other things as well. For instance, the bachelor party was a weekend long celebration (Friday night to Sunday morning) P (remember this is the best man) didn't show up to the bachelor party until Saturday at 2, and left super early on Sunday morning... wasn't even there 24 hours... what was his excuse? He had to work... dude... Chad took off all weekend for this... and he has what you'd call a real job. He also wanted to pack it in and call it a night around midnight on Saturday... the groom was not ready to go.

Also, he didn't spend the night after the rehearsal (night before the wedding) with the groom as all the other groomsmen did... or get ready with them before the ceremony. It's like he acted as though this wedding was a huge inconvenience to him. If Chad was totally messing things up like this I would be on his back to be a good friend... obviously K does not care.

All of these are reasons why I don't like K... but let's face it we get a read off people when we first meet them (first impression) sometimes I'm wrong... I have been before, but with her it's only gotten worse... and luckily I am not the only one who thinks that. When you are the only person that dislikes someone you start to wonder if you are crazy, however, we are not alone... everyone doesn't like her and now that they are engaged, it's like what do you do? They are moving away... and we'll probably never talk to them again.... which is kind of sad when you think about how close P and Chad were... however this is what happens in life... friends come and go and sadly this one might be going. I think I've captured most of the things Chad and I have talked about over the last few days... but I might update with more.

Chad and I have had some issues with friends lately... like I haven't talked to my maid of honor in who knows how long, and it's truly sad...

Like the title of this post, I probably sound crazy, mean, and a little bit bitchy... but geez I needed to get all of this off my mind... And since this is my blog I can write whatever I want... and I'm not just hiding behind a computer screen I can say this stuff out loud too. So don't think I'm too crazy, I'll be back later with a happier wedding post sometime this week.

health care

I'm listening to the president's press conference on reforming the health care system.

I don't really know what the best plan is for reforming the health care system... and that's not what I'm going to say in the blog entry.

Just a couple of things came to mind while President Obama was talking...

(1) Pre-existing conditions... all I can say is thank the lord that my government insurance covers pre-existing conditions... one of the first thoughts that ran through my mind after they discovered Chad's brain tumor was oh crap... now it's a pre-existing condition... and then it would have been soo much freaking money... which brings me to point number 2

(2) Chad's surgery alone was in the neighborhood of $50,000... and that's not including the other stuff* I just cannot possibly imagine not having insurance to help cover these costs... We are lucky

*one of my BIGGEST peeves about medical bills is their confusing nature... we get so many different bills all for Chad's surgery and stay at the hospital... I mean we thought we got them all and then a straggler comes in... they are all coming from the same hospital... would it be so hard to be able to put them all on one bill? Talk about confusing!!

Anyway... hopefully we get some type of reform... and hopefully it helps... that's all for now.

Petty

Do you ever feel like you're being really petty about something... but you just don't care? I've been feeling that way a lot lately... I have a feeling it's something that's going to continue for the next month.

Whenever the story comes out of my mouth I feel like people are probably judging me... thinking I'm being stupid and petty... but I can't help myself, I'm upset. It still gets under my skin and just crawls...

I really try to get myself to not care... to remind myself that they get to make their own decisions in life... that's not something can control... nor should I be able to... yet that doesn't stop me from being hurt.

The next month is just going to be a constant reminder of that and I knew it was going to be this way... I knew that the closer it got the more hurt I would end up feeling.

I know that people say they understand what I'm feeling but I sometimes wonder if they just say that or they really mean that... I know that Chad understands what I'm feeling... and a few others, but the other people that ask, I just don't know if they understand.

I'm dreading that trip... it's sad that I have to dread spending time with my family that I love and are a lot of fun, but I am... I know that weekend will be a hard one for me...

People have said well... you're the bigger person... but that really doesn't make me feel any better... that actually makes me question why I ALWAYS feel like I'm "being the better person" Why doesn't that ever pay off... like being rewarded for being the better person.

So I know I'm being petty... I know that I'm feeling hurt... I know that I will survive... I know there's nothing I can do about it... and that I'm the only person who can make myself feel better

But sadly her decision is one that can never ever be taken back... and it's something that will follow my opinion of her for the rest of our lives...

That's right... I have opinions

I promise that I'll get to my post about our weekend in Virginia... I want to post the (very few uneventful) pictures I took and I have to do that when I get home.

So in the mean time... here's another post I've been meaning to write.

Chad and I are not ready to have kids... it's going to be awhile before we are ready to even think about having kids... so in no way is this post relavent to us quite yet.

I am a firm believer in waiting until the baby is born to find out the sex. I become increasingly annoyed when I hear that people can't wait to find out the sex of their baby. Sure... it might make it easier to decorate the room... or buy clothes... but for real I'm not going to find out.

There aren't many big surprises left in life... I think this should be one of them... true... seeing the baby in general is a surprise but I really think that hearing 'it's a boy' or 'it's a girl' will be a really fun moment.

Going along with this is I don't really like when people have the name of the baby picked out... It seems somewhat different (don't ask me or make me explain how) when you don't know if it's a girl or boy... so you have Allison Marie for a girl and George William for a boy picked out. That seems better... than knowing it's a girl and naming it Susie Q... just seems strange and I do not like it.

I know a lot of people like doing this... I just am not one of them... a bit of a traditionalist... or something (that's what I'm calling it at least) I know it might be different when I'm pregnant and can find out... but for right now that is my plan-dizzle.

Topic #1

Since meeting Chad there have been two issues that were once not that important to me, but now they are near and dear to my heart. The first is motorcycle awareness (watching for our two wheeled friends on the road) and the second is pit bulls. Today I will rant about the second one...

Last week sometime (maybe Friday) I read a very short article on StLToday about a pit bull who attacked a one year old boy... (here is the article) As you can see it is very short and not very informative... The part of this story that bothers me is the comments made by people about pit bulls.

Once upon a time I was scared of these dogs... all I knew about them was they attacked people and were used in dog fighting... I did not know much else... mostly b/c you don't hear those stories. Then my cousin Ashley had to her rid of her pit b/c she just didn't have the room for it anymore... Chad and I decided that we would take him in. He was the sweetest dog... Ashley has two kids and those kids could do practically anything to that dog and he wouldn't mind. While I was nervous at first about having him in our home I quickly got over that... Bear was the sweetest and sadly had a rough life and we had to put him to sleep.

Shortly there after Chad brought home another pit... Rowdy. Rowdy has been with us for a few months now... he's still a puppy but looking at his pictures in that post it's amazing how big he is now. He is the same loving, sweet dog that Bear was. He loves to play catch and tug-of-war... him and Bozley get along wonderfully... and he loves being next to people. When we have people over everyone falls in love with Rowdy... we hear "I'm going to steal your dog" out of almost every single one of our friend's mouths.

So I read the above article and more notably the comments... It's just another case of sheer ignorance... seriously. People get scared of these wonderful dogs b/c of selective reporting... Whenever it is a pit bull in question the breed gets named, but if it is another type of dog it's just 'a dog'... going further on this Chad informed me that our neighbor's dog attacked the elderly sick mother... and she had to get like 37 stitches in her face... that dog was NOT a pit.

I feel like I'm jumping all over the place with this post...

Anyway... it's just sad that there are ignorant people out there... people that want to breed these wonderful dogs out of existence... or ban breeds in certain areas... meaning they could pass a law in my town banning me from having our wonderful dog. I wish people (like I once was) could understand that pits can be amazing dogs... and the reason a lot 'go bad' is b/c of careless owners... or worse owners that train their dogs to do that... They give these loving dogs a bad name.

This is all about closed-mindedness... like other topics I will not go into today.

I hope everyone can realize that pits are great dogs... they are not all bad... they can be loving and caring and amazing pets... I love my pit!!

**Edit**
I wanted to add that the only thing dangerous about my pit bull is his tail... (it's like a whip when he's wagging it) and I just noticed he attacked Boz with kisses... how freaking cute.

Seriously?

We went to Walgreens tonight to grab a couple of things... well... they already have Valentine's day candy and stuff out... serioulsy? It's December 29th... c'mon wait until the new year!!

Oh and they also have Obama and family t-shirts... that's just silly... I'd like to see someone actually wear that... I mean it's cheesy as get-out... I like Obama and all and it's pretty cool what he did... but I will never wear a t-shirt with him and his family pictured on it... they also have commertive plates... Good job Walgreens... way to cash in on the Obama wagon!!

And a side note... I went in there looking like utter hell... a gray hoodie... black men's swishy shorts... pink socks... and my brown clogs... I was hott!!

And on a unrelated topic Boz and Bear are completely worn out... it's pretty funny

Leverage

Okay... so I listen to the radio while I am at work. It accomplishes two goals... it helps pass the time and it drowns out the incredibly annoying people in the IRA Tax Reporting section that is in the next row over... these people seriously talk about food all the time and have the most random conversations that I do not think are "work appropiate"... I mean I actually heard one of them say "your baby mama's fiance" today... if I didn't have the radio I would want to pull my hair out.

Anyway... back to the point of the post... I list to the radio... and naturally there are commercials... a lot of them are really silly... but this one stood out to me. It's a commercial for a TV show on TNT called Leverage. I'm not exactly sure what the TV show is about but I guess it stars an academy award winner... either way they had a quote from a critic... "better than the last two Ocean's Eleven movies"

Here's my problem... Is this the best critic quote they could find about this show? I mean this quote does not make me want to watch the show... I mean it if was better than the first Ocean's Eleven movie maybe... I mean the first one was a great movie if you ask me... but the second and third? Not so much... were they enjoyable? Yeah... Did they have attractive men in them? Oh hells yeah... but were they good movies... not really. I think that my opinion on this matter is pretty standard... actually it might be more positive than the average person. So my point is why did TNT decide to use that quote? Seriously? Every time I hear the commercial I wonder why...

If you haven't been living under a rock...

You know that last night we elected a new president... Barack Obama.

As you probably can tell from my other posts I am very happy about this... it's very very cool.

I listened to both McCain's and Obama's speeches last night and thought they were both very good. McCain's speech was very good... He was very dignified and he was right Obama's campaign did what he nor any other candidate in history could do... He motivated people who have never voted before to vote... he tapped the unused resource in other elections. And boy did he do it. I'm sad for McCain, he is a true American Hero and there are few who have given their lives to America like McCain has. If he would have won I would have not been upset.

Obama's speech was motivating... he really knows how to public speak and like Chad said last night he has a way of talking that makes you believe him. I'm excited to see where this country is going to go and the changes we can make.

Overall it was quite an election season... and one I'm kinda glad is over... On a side note we voted yesterday for State Senator - District 1. It was Jim Lembke (rep) vs. Joan Barry (dem)... Jim got 43,778 votes and Joan got 43,686 votes. This is a difference of just 92 votes.

Oh... and I did listen to the morning show again... and was annoyed again... stupid people that just don't get it... seriously... stupid... anyway... I don't want to get into that...

Oh... and another annoying thing... people's stupid Facebook statuses... idiots... complete idiots (I get that McCain lost and that's sad for you but you being ignorant isn't going to do shit)

I hope this is my last post of election and politics for awhile...

Freakin' Annoying

Okay... so really I'm doing it to myself... but the morning show I'm listening to is freaking annoying... Yes... I listen to the MJ morning show and it's annoying... McCain is awesome... Obama will run this country into the ground... "We are an equal opportunity show"... my ass you are... Just b/c you say you'll let people talk who are Obama supporters does not mean you are an equal opportunity show... When you dispute EVERYTHING they have to say makes you a very bias show... I am NOT being brainwashed into voting for Obama... I am making a decision that I believe in and aligns with the way I think this country should be going. You may believe one thing and I can believe a completely different thing... I also am not just voting for Obama b/c I'm sick of Bush... Yes... I'm sick of Bush but that's not why I'm voting democrat.

I guess I'm just so sick of this political season... the last election was exciting and fun... but this one has been annoying... people keep saying things like if you really know what my candidate was about you would clearly vote for them... well we all have differing opinions... we all are raised with different values and we all grow up to think different things and hold different issues closer to us than others... we vote based on what speaks to us... what I believe it the way I want this country to go and you vote based on what you think... this is why we all have the freedom to vote... I'm so sick of it... and I'm really sick of the Obama bashing... I feel like I'm not very good at describing this... I am a well educated intelligent woman and I will vote for who I want to vote for...

I'm ready for this election to be over... tonight no matter what we will have a new president and that's a wonderful thing... I hope that it will be Obama but if it's McCain that's fine too... Everyone should vote... vote in what they believe in... I believe in Obama.

Now while I get so annoyed with the MJ Morning show... I'm sick of the constant Obama is a horrible person... and if this keeps continuing I will not be listening to their show anymore... I'm done if that's the case...

Okay... my political rant is over for now... vote people!!

Quick Political Thought

Abortion is a popular political topic... and an issue a lot of people hold near and dear... I just want to say that I hate when people think that pro-choice is the same thing as pro-abortion... I am pro-choice... would I ever get an abortion myself? No... but that doesn't mean that I should be able to make the decision for other women and couples... Just b/c someone is pro-choice does not mean they think abortion is awesome... or the first solution in those cases... I think people should have the right the choose what they want to do... if it's in the cards for them to not have a baby at this time then that's their choice... why should you or me or some old white guy in Washington decide that for them?

I think that the Chapter in Freaknomics really says it best, and if you haven't gotten a chance to read that book that you should.

While we are on this topic I really REALLY hate it when people vote based on a politian's view on one topic. You see this a lot with abortion and same-sex marriage. I'm going to vote for so-and-so b/c he is against abortion or same-sex marriage or whatever... that's stupid...

Conservative really make me mad sometimes... there I said it

Vote For Change

It is only seven days until election day... everyone should vote. Voting is an important civic right that we all have that some do not exercise. I think it's very important that you go out and vote no matter who or what you want to vote for. I'm not going to tell you what do to, everyone should vote based on what they believe is best. Our ancestors fought for our right to vote and people just don't understand the importance anymore.

Last week I realized that I have no clue where I'm suppose to vote. See I changed my name AND address after the October 4th registration deadline. I tried to figure it out on the St. Louis County site and just wasn't able to. What I would normally do in this situation would be to say oh well, there's always next time. I thought about saying this but I kept feeling guilty... really really guilty. I sent them an email and figured out I will be voting at the polling place for my next address. I'm very happy and relieved to have this figured out. I don't care if I have to stand in a long line to vote, I'm going to do it as should everyone of legal age.

This presidental election will create history, not just b/c we will elect a new president but we could elect an African American as president or a female as VP. This election will change every one from here on out. No longer will it only be old white guys in office... and that's a really really neat thing.

So everyone... please vote... not to mention if you vote you can get a free scoop of Ben and Jerry's ice cream!! So now what?

I will be voting for Obama. But even if you're not it's your right to vote and you should!!
