Poor Bear...

Chad and I have been having a little drama with our poor wonderful Bear... Here's the story...

On Saturday night Bear started to vomit a little... we hoped he just ate something bad and it would pass... but on Sunday he was still vomiting and had diarrhea. He was so lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink anything. We decided that if on Monday he was still acting this way we would take him to the vet.

Monday came around and he still wasn't acting normal. Chad made him an appointment. At the appt they first thought it might be some type of viral infection... since they did a Parvo test as well as an x-ray... both negative. They gave him fluids and some meds through an IV. On Tuesday we took him back there for round two. About mid-way through the day he had still not made an progress... actually he may have even been worse off... he had lost more than 5 pounds over just a couple of days... We met with the vet that night and after a long talk we knew what we had to do... he needed to have surgery.

This morning he went into (basically) emergency surgery. And what did they find? He had a puncture in his intestine and was leaking fluid into his abdomen. The intestine had basically gone bad and they had to remove about 8-10 inches of intestine. They also found some foreign items in his stomach and intestine. Basically they think he had an upset stomach and then ate some grass or sticks outside and the stick punctured his intestine.

He recovered from surgery well... and is in much better spirits today... he gave kisses and wags his tail and has eaten and drank a little for us. He's not in the clear yet but thus far things are looking good. He made it through surgery which she said 1 in 4 don't make it through that. Since he leaked so much fluid there's the potential for a severe bacterial infection... so we have to give him loads of meds to help with that. We have to give him 4 different types of pills a day. We also have to moniter his bathroom visits and temperature.

We hope that he recovers well and pulls through for us. It was a lot of money to get all of this done, and it was a very tough decision on what to do, since there was the possibitly we could get him surgery and we still wouldn't be able to know what was wrong. We love him very much. He's such a sweetheart... please send your well wishes toward him... the little guy is tough... this could have easily killed him before we knew what was wrong.

I'm sorry I haven't been writing lately... I imagine I will have a very exciting blog entry to write soon...

Update(s)

Here's a list of random updates:
  • last weekend was awesome... Friday night Chad and I got to spend some time together... we ate food (Chad and I were tricked by a commercial... KFC's big box deal is so NOT worth it) and we watched Moulin Rouge since Chad has never seen it before... he loved it.
  • Oh Saturday... Rachel and I went to a jewelry party at our good friend Katie's house and Rach, me, and Chad met Sam for dinner at B-dubs... mmm honey bbq boneless wings
  • That night we had an impromptu party... it's amazing to me that you can plan a party for weeks and no one can come and then randomly on a Saturday night you call a bunch of people and they all show up... We played a whole bunch of drinking games and just had a great fun night... It was seriously a-m-a-z-i-n-g
  • Have you ever had a conversation with someone who was completely smashed and they start speaking the truth... but the good kind of truth... Rachel and I had a heart-to-heart and the things she said made me feel really special... now I know there's a very good possibility she doesn't remember what was said... but it was sweet
  • We celebrated my Grandma's birthday on Sunday along with Eve, another relative of mine (if I described how we are related it would get very confusing) Grandma and Eve were born on the same day... both turning 72. Texas Roadhouse did a great job of serving all 26 of us... and both of them seemed to be having a very good time.
  • Do you know what sucks the most? No not Tony (inside joke in case you were wondering) the fact Chad and I have spent only roughly 70 minutes together since I left for work on Monday morning... and the only reason it's that high is b/c he came home early this morning, woke me up, and brought me breakfast in bed... he's the love of my life and I miss him right now
well... I think I'm going to put the dogs to bed and then head to bed myself... just everyone hope the next few weeks go by quickly so I can not have to be at work for 11 hours every day... whew... I need a new job.

Dear Faithful Readers

Dear Faithful Blog readers,

I know I have not been a very good blogger lately. I have been busy… super busy. I usually post from work, it's true. But it's tax time and that's our season. Please stick with me… I promise I haven't forgotten about the blog or all of you. I will try to be better… but it might not get fully better until March. So please don't give up… check back occasionally and I promise it will get better.

Love you!!
Jenn

It was a SNS miracle

I thought this was pretty funny... Chad and I went to Steak n Shake last night for dinner. I mostly order the same thing every time however with slight variations. Well last night I ordered my typical Frisco Melt platter with chili as both of my sides. After I said this I immediately started to question this... I mean I love their chili but the family next to us had cheese fries that looked amazing so I came to the conclusion I wanted cheese fries too. I started to try to send Chad ESP vibes to order some cheese fries with his taco salad (appetizing I know...) Well Chad didn't catch my thoughts... and I figured well it's probably for the best b/c do I really need that much food? So when our food finally was ready (before the waitress brought it over to us) we saw her look at the order and then the receipt and then went to talk to someone else... we figured it was b/c they put tomatoes and/or onions on the taco salad (Chad ordered them without) and we were really convinced it was going to be like that...

Anywho... she brings us our order and says they messed up and gave me cheese fries... and not only that... they must had accidentally thought I ordered two orders of cheese fries... b/c that's what we got... 2 freaking orders of cheese fries... That we got to keep... for free... and I didn't even have to feel guilty about not eating them all since they were free... whoo!!

So even though my ESP skillz didn't work on Chad... they must have worked on someone in that store... and that, my friends, is what you call a Steak n Shake miracle!!
