Colorado - Part 3

The next morning we woke up, grabbed some quick breakfast and were off.

We decided to go to Mount Evans.  It boasts the highest paved road in North America.  We borrowed Dan's mom's car for the trip.  She has one of those things that displays how many miles you have until empty.  We started at the bottom with like 80 miles left in the tank.  By the time we made it half way up we were down to about 19 miles... yikes.

So we had to turn around and come all the way back down get gas and head back up again...  But that did mean we got to stop at a Kum and Go... which reminds me of my Truman days.

Once we got into the actual park (part of the Arapaho National Forest) we drive up, up, up.  It was quite the winding roads and steep drop offs... but you do get to go through the mountain zones (just learned about zones)... you get to one where the trees start looking super weird and then above that there's no trees at all!

It was in the 80s in Denver and the wind chill at the summit was 41*... craziness... I soooo should not have worn shorts.

While we were up there Dan and Kyle climbed to the tip-top while I stayed down... mostly b/c I was really cold... and while they were up there it sleeted... seriously...

On the way back down we looked at the trees.

We headed into Idaho Springs to eat some lunch.  We ate at Tommyknocker Brewery.  It was yummy, I had the TundraBeary beer and it was delicious - fruity, light.  I also had some of their chili - a green chile chili - it had quite the kick!

We walked around the little town and went into a couple of the shops then headed back to the hotel.  We relaxed and went out to a late dinner at a Mexican restaurant by the hotel - 3 Margaritas.  We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and had some delicious Mexican food.

The trip was so much fun... the right mix of doing a lot of things while still feeling relaxing.  Colorado is so beautiful... I can totally see why people want to live there.  I do wonder how it is when it's winter and cold and snowy... probably not my type of place then!
