I'm not sure the last time I gave an update on how school is going...
School is going well, I am starting to get burnt out... I've pretty much had school work to do every week (with the exception of three weeks off) since February. So admitingly it's gotten a bit old. This class I'm currently in is a bit rough I'll say... it's a Multimedia Development class and I've had to design multimedia presentations. I've had to edit video and record and edit my voice. You know how much it sucks listening to your voice over and over and over again... yuck. Plus it's just taken me awhile to perfect certain elements of the media and with Window's Movie Maker crashing and not editing like it should... well it's made things stressful for sure!
Over than that - things have been going well. A week from tomorrow the term will be over. I'll have a week off (always enjoy) and then start up my penultimate term. I have just 3 classes left!! Two classes next term and then one class after that. I will be done in May and I'll have my Master's degree. So I think the light is there and I'll be really happy to be finished and go back to not feeling guilty about school work - haha but then I'll have the dreaded student loans back... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Yay for me!!
As you may remember, I have gone back to school. The first term I decided to stick with just one class. I was really nervous about what it would be like to be back at school. I graduated from Truman back in 2006 - so it's been about four and half years since I was in school, and undergrad wasn't the easiest for me...
Well, I'm happy to report that my first class/term has gone great. Not only did I do well on the assignments I didn't mind doing the work most times. It is very different from undergrad. I don't think I selected the right program back then. But that's not the only thing... I didn't really have any real life experience to relate school to. I really debate whether going directly to college after high school is the right decision. For my entire life college is what you do after high school... and I followed that trend. I don't think I really knew what I wanted to do with my life.
Anyway... now class makes sense to me... I am able to pull real life examples from my work. It's truly awesome. I was nervous at first since most of the other students in my class already had a degree in education... and most of them were teachers. But I was able to add to the discussion and relate their ideas to adult education.
Well, my grade came in today and I'm happy to report that I got an A!! I am so excited and thrilled with myself. I'm hoping to keep this trend up. I have a perfect 4.0 GPA right now. It's super exciting. I'm hoping to keep this trend through this entire masters program. That will certainly help my chances of getting what I'll now refer to as the 'dream job'.
My next term starts on Wednesday and I will try my hand at two classes. I will work hard at these two classes (educational psychology and instructional design). But if it is too much work to handle I will let myself drop back down to one class a term... but we'll see how it goes! It will be double the work, however I'm hoping I will be able to handle it. The only thing I see being a problem is now that it's summer time it seems like life gets busier b/c more people what to do things. It will just mean I will have to stay organized and remember what my priorities are.
But I got an A!! So happy about that!!

Back to School
I have decided to go back to school for a masters degree. I have been debating this for quite some time. I really think to stay competitive I need to get an advanced degree. I really wasn't sure what I wanted to go into until I started working for the VA (almost 2 years ago.) I have always thought about a career in education. When I was deciding what program to go into in college I had considered edcation but ended up changing my mind and persuing an Accounting degree. In high school I took an accounting class and LOVED it... I was AWESOME at it and not only that I enjoyed it. But soon I realized that I only liked very basic accounting. When it got higher level I didn't enjoy it much. That's when I switched to Business/Finance and eventually landing with Business/Management. I knew that I wasn't horribly interested in business, but I was so to getting that degree - I was just ready to be done with school for awhile.
Well, when I started working here I was introduced to a new field - Adult Education. I'm very happy working here and getting a lot of experience. In order to move up here I will need to get an advanced degree. A little over a year ago I looked into University of Phoenix but when it got to the part I had to put in my credit card information I freaked and backed out. If something like that scared me off, I knew I just wasn't ready yet. My work had also recently announced a huge reorganization (who knew the government would reorganize??) So I was hesitant to spend all this time and money when things might turn upside down. In hindsight (20/20 anyone??) I should have just moved forward.
When the dust finally settled and Chad started working a new work schedule I finally realized I was more than ready to get this thing going. Well, then I ran into some problems with University of Phoenix and again I felt back to square one. (I just looked and it seems they now are offering that degree program in Missouri again... figures.)
That's when I heard a commercial for Kaplan University. It had the degree program I wanted and the convenience of online classes. I really wanted an online degree program due to the fact I have to travel a lot for work. It makes sense for me to be able to do work from a computer anywhere instead of needing to be in a classroom and missing material. So I got some more information from them and it really seemed like a great plan for me.
I was all ready to start in the beginning of December, however they decided it would be more beneficial for me to wait a term so there would be more students in my class to interact with. That made sense to me. So now I am starting in less than a week on February 2. You read that right, I am starting my master's degree in 3 short days.
So how does that make me feel? Well... I have a mixture of feelings going on. I'm feeling happy to get started, to have something to work towards, to get moving on this career path. I'm also feeling scared, scared about failing, scared about writing papers, scared I won't be able to 'hack' it. I'm feeling excited and nervous and a whole of of things. When I say I'm starting school on Wednesday I don't exactly know what emotion to attach to it. Is it 'I'm starting school on Wednesday, eek' or 'I'm starting school on Wednesday, blah'? I'm not really sure. It's weird to not really be sure, but not a bad weird just a weird weird.
It's been 4.5 years since I've been in school (which happens to be the amount of time Chad and I have been together) I think this go around will be different from undergrad.

- I care more about it - I know what paying student loans are like, I have to be serious about it to want to incur more of them.
- I am more interested - I am actually excited to learn about some of this stuff. Education has always been interesting to me, so this seems right up my alley.
- I have had a break from school - toward the end of undergrad I had been in school for 15-16 years in a row. I was honestly sick of it and ready to do something else
- I'm doing online - I really think I will work better in an online classroom
- (and for fun's sake) I have DVR - no longer will I be slave to television schedule
So there you have it. My new adventure... wish me luck!!
And just for fun - here's a picture when I graduated with my undergrad degree from Truman State University. (check out how light my hair was - not the greatest look)
